Top ‘n’ go – Debut of the CC 2800-1 NT
The new CC 2800-1 NT is proving its cost effectiveness in the construction of wind power plants at its service debut in Kjøllefjord, Norway.
A major logistical feat had to be accomplished before the new TEREX Demag CC 2800-1 NT (narrow track), operated by the KR Wind crane company could be activated for the first time. At the beginning of August, the 600 t crane was shipped from Denmark to Kjøllefjord in Norway together with 2.3 megawatt wind power plants. A total of 17 wind power plants were to be erected there. A service employee and development engineer from Terex Demag were present, accompanying the crane during its first operation.
The Load
Each tower of the wind power plants consists of two segments. The height of the hub is approx. 70 meters; each equipment pod has a weight of 87.1 tons. The equipment pod, hub, and three rotor blades were hoisted and installed individually. Each of the seven hoists lasted about one hour. Afterwards, the crane was moved to the next installation site on streets that were a mere five meters wide. The individual sites are approx. 400 meters apart from each other. The crane easily negotiated the road gradients between the sites of up to 10° (17.6%). As no assembly and disassembly were required to transport the crane to the next facility, the KR Wind Team was able to sharply increase its productivity.
KR Wind has a great deal of experience in the installation of wind power plants. They are highly satisfied with the function of the new narrow track concept and expect the delivery of the second unit in the near future.
